MAP Grants from the Kansas City Artists Coalition

The Money for Artists Promotion (MAP) grant assists artists by providing funds to promote and market their artwork.

Charlotte Street Foundation

Who: Nominated performing and visual artists in Kansas City

The Charlotte Street Foundation provides annual cash awards to visual and generative performing artists as well as free studios and performance and exhibition spaces to theater, dance, music, film/video, and visual artists for the creation and presentation of new work.

The Lighton International Artists Exchange Program

Deadline: Semiannually, in August and March
Who: Visual artists
Award: Maximum $5,000, applications should be made 6-12 months in advance of planned travel

Administered through the Kansas City Artists Coalition, the Lighton International Artists Exchange Program works to make the world a smaller place by giving artists of different cultures the opportunity to work together in the hope that lasting friendship and understanding will develop. The program provides support for visual artists and arts professionals to travel to international residencies and artist communities and for foreign visual artists to travel to and work in the United States.

ArtsKC Inspiration Grants

Deadline: Semiannually on March 1, July 1 and November 1
Who: Artists of all disciplines
Award: Maximum $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for a team of artists

Inspiration Grants from the ArtsKC Fund are an investment in human capital, providing direct support to individual artists and arts professionals for projects and activities that have the potential to advance their careers and build their capacity for future work.  Applications for Inspiration Grants will be reviewed and approved three times over the course of the year, so there are opportunities to apply every four months. 

Exhibitions Calls at the KC Artists Coalition: Mallin and Charno Galleries

Deadline: Proposals are due annually on September 15
Who: Open to all artists, with a special interest in artists from the Midwest. Artists of color are also encouraged to apply.

The Kansas City Artists Coalition accepts proposals for the Mallin and Jacqueline B. Charno Galleries on September 15 of every year. KCAC produces 7-8 exhibitions in each of the two galleries that are curated by its Exhibition Committee, from its annual call for artists. The Mallin Gallery is a loft type gallery with hardwood floors, track lighting and storefront windows with blinds. The square footage is 1420, ceiling height is 12 feet, and the linear measurement of walls used for hanging is 109 feet. The lighting is suspended approximately 9-½ from the floor in three banks, which run the length of the gallery East to West. The Jacqueline B. Charno Gallery is immediately accessible through the Mallin Gallery. The gallery has the same hardwood floors and track lighting as the Mallin Gallery. The square footage is 690 feet, ceiling height is 12 feet and the linear measurement of walls used for hanging is 88 feet. The lighting is suspended approximately 9-½ feet from the floor in three banks, which run the length of the gallery East to West. KCAC carries Fine Art Insurance, however, artists must insure their work to and from the gallery. KCAC takes a 30% commission on works sold.

The Exhibition Committee makes decisions to award solo, two-person or group exhibits. In addition, the committee reserves the right to place the exhibits in the gallery deemed most appropriate. Please let KCAC know about any scheduling conflicts you might have in your proposal. Artists will be notified after the first of the year as to the committee's decisions. All media is accepted. Work must have been completed in the past two years. Open to all artists, with a special interest in artists from the Midwest. Artists of color are also encouraged to apply.

To be considered, please submit: visual documentation (url and/or 20 digital images on CD, both MAC and PC compatible); inventory sheet (list of artworks submitted with thumbnail images including information about the media, size, date of completion, and price); artist statement; resume; support materials (reviews, catalogs, etc.); and a large self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your materials (no SASE, no return of materials). Reasonable care will be taken of materials submitted, however, KCAC will not assume responsibility for loss or damage to materials while in our possession. Complete proposals are due September 15 of every year.

Exhibitions Calls at the KC Artists Coalition: Underground

Deadline: Proposals are due annually on November 1
Who: Only current KCAC members are eligible for an exhibition in the Underground

The Kansas City Artists Coalition accepts proposals for the Underground on November 1 of every year. Underground is KCAC's exclusive member's only gallery. It is located in Mel's ArtSpace and is accessible through the Mallin Gallery. The gallery's large "L" shaped room has approximately 1, 065 square feet, the linear measurement of walls used for hanging is 140 feet and the ceiling height is 102 inches. The lighting is attached to beams in the ceiling; the floor is painted cement and entry doors measure 80 x 36 inches. KCAC takes a 30% commission on works sold.
