Artist INC announces the first presentation in their reFRESH Speakers Series, designed to bring the best thinkers from across the country to Kansas City to share fresh ideas with local artists about creating their careers and growing their arts businesses.

Artist INC, a collaborative partnership of the Charlotte Street Foundation, the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City, and the UMKC Innovation Center, announces a $30,000 grant from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, a Connecticut-based national arts funder, to support business training seminars for local artists. The Artist INC grant is the first Tremaine Foundation award given to a Kansas City program or organization.

Artist INC announces the artists selected for the 2012 Spring Session of the Artist INC Live seminar. With this roster of 25 Kansas City-based artists, Artist INC has now reached more than 200 local artists in the past two years with its innovative arts entrepreneurship program.

There are hundreds of artists’ residency opportunities available for artists of all kinds and at every career stage—some in one’s own backyard and others across the globe. Caitlin Strokosch, Executive Director of the Alliance of Artists Communities out of Providence, Rhode Island will guide area artists through the labyrinth when she presents as a part of the Artist Entrepreneur Speakers Program (Artist ESP) on Tuesday, March 30th, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Arts Incubator, 115 W 18th St., Kansas City, MO.

On Thursday, September 17 at 7 pm, artist and author Jackie Battenfield will be in Kansas City for an author talk and book signing at Unity Temple on the Plaza. Jackie’s new book, The Artist’s Guide: How to Make a Living Doing What You Love, has been called the ultimate how-to manual for working visual artists willing to "challenge the myth of the starving, disorganized artist."

Leveraging Investments in Creativity (LINC) has awarded a $100,000 challenge grant to a partnership of Kansas City arts and business support organizations to begin new professional development programs for artists in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.
